A pedigree dog is more predictable in terms of physical breed standards, character, temperament and size. However, pedigree puppies can be expensive and it will take time to find a reputable breeder, which may mean being put on a waiting list and going through an interview process for suitability. Dognapping is also a crime on the increase for those with attractive pedigree dogs who may be seen as good breed stock candidates.
Cross-breeds are not expensive and they are usually easy to find, but you must learn as much as you can about its parents to gauge the end result. A good mix of cross-breeding can make an exceptional companion with many shared benefits of the cross-breeds; however, this concept can also backfire, as it can with any irresponsible breeder of dogs. Be careful, be leery, ask questions and be informed.
